Try Having No Opinion
“You always own the option of having no opinion. There is never any need to get worked up or to trouble your soul about things you can't control. These things are not asking to be judged by you. Leave them alone.”
—Marcus Aurelius
Meditations
Have you ever noticed the tension building up inside when you're bombarded with news, gossip, or just the everyday choices of what to have for lunch?
It's as though you're pushed into a corner, feeling compelled to form an opinion on absolutely everything.
Marcus reminds us that this pressure is not a requirement of life, but a habit we've learned. The truth is, many things in life—especially those beyond our control—don't need our judgment or emotional investment.
When the world buzzes around you, remember that staying neutral is an option. You can conserve your energy for the things that truly matter to you.
How much mental clutter are you creating by weighing in on things that don't directly affect you or that you can't change? Perhaps your coworker's choice of attire, or the weather ruining your weekend plans. These external events are impartial; they don't beg for your approval or disapproval.
By choosing the liberating path of no opinion, you free your soul from unnecessary burdens.
Today, practice letting go. When you feel the urge to react, pause and ask yourself, "Does this require my opinion?"
More often than not, you'll find peace and clarity in simply leaving things alone.
