Beauty Is Inherent

May 22nd

“Anything in any way beautiful derives its beauty from itself and asks nothing beyond itself. Praise is no part of it, for nothing is made worse or better by praise.”

—Marcus Aurelius

Meditations

Consider the beauty of a rose. It doesn't bloom more vibrantly when complimented nor does it wilt when ignored.

Recognize that true beauty—and this extends to our own qualities and achievements—exists independently of applause. When you complete a task at work or improve your fitness at the gym, that progress isn't magnified by someone else's recognition nor diminished by their indifference. It's inherently valuable, just like the rose's allure.

Now, reflect on what you consider your most beautiful trait or accomplishment. Does it lose its worth if no one acknowledges it? Certainly not. Your challenge today is to ground your self-worth in your own standards and efforts, not in the external validation of others.

How liberating would it be to live knowing that your value, just like that self-sufficient beauty, requires no one’s praise to be affirmed?

Let your actions and character stand proud on their own—you are inherently valuable, with or without the applause.
