Exude Virtue

May 21st

“The honest and good person ought to be exactly like a person who smells strong, so that the bystander, as soon as they come near them, must smell whether they choose to or not.”

—Marcus Aurelius

Meditations

Just like someone with a strong scent can't help but leave an impression on everyone within proximity, your integrity should be evident to those you interact with.

But it's not about being overpowering or in anyone's face about your virtues. Instead, it’s about consistently living by your principles, so they become as noticeable and undeniable as a signature scent. Reflect on your actions and words today. Do they subtly yet powerfully signal your character to others, even without a grand announcement?

Apply this to your daily life by considering your impact on those around you. Do people know what you stand for without you needing to tell them? Your actions, the choices you make, how you respond to a challenging email, or your manner of treating the waiter at lunch—do these moments radiate the “aroma” of your character?

Think of your personal integrity as a fragrance that lingers. When others cross your path, will they sense the aroma of kindness, honesty, and goodness, even after you've moved on?

Let your deeds, like an unconscious whiff of integrity, affirm what you're truly about.
