It's All A Dream

April 12th

“Regain your senses, call yourself back, and once again wake up. Now that you realize that only dreams were troubling you, view this "reality" as you view your dreams.”

—Marcus Aurelius

Meditations

Sometimes life feels as overwhelming and surreal as a vivid dream. You may become caught up in worries about the future or regrets from the past, forgetting that just like dreams, these thoughts are not the present reality.

Marcus reminds us to snap out of this trance. Take a deep breath and ground yourself. Ask yourself: Is what's troubling me right now as tangible as what I touched this morning, or is it an intangible figment of my imagination, like the echoes of a dream?

As you go through your day, you'll likely find yourself getting swept up in the storytelling of your mind. Look at these narratives critically, as you would consider the strange events of a dream upon waking.

Is the anxiety about that upcoming project or the frustration with a friend as solid as it seems, or are you projecting fear and irritation onto shadows and whispers?

When you catch yourself getting lost in these illusions, gently guide your attention back to the here and now.

Remember, dreams cannot chase you if you choose to wake up to the present moment, where life is really happening.
