Get Back Up And Keep Going
“Though you break your heart, all will go on as before.”
—Marcus Aurelius
Meditations
The world's turning is not hinged on our personal afflictions.
When your heart breaks—from grief, disappointment, or failure—it might feel all-encompassing. Yet, outside your personal turmoil, life progresses steadily forward. Trees continue to grow, the tides come in and out, and people around you advance with their daily routines. Have your most difficult days ever stopped the sun from rising the next morning?
Considering this perspective isn't meant to diminish the depth of your emotions, but rather to contextualize them. In the grand scheme, each individual's sorrows are a tiny blip on the radar of the universe's unfathomable expanse.
So how can we apply this Stoic wisdom to our daily life? When struck by adversity, ask yourself: Will this matter in five years? Ten? If the cosmos remains indifferent, perhaps we can learn to let go a little, focusing instead on what we can control—our actions and responses.
By doing so, you embrace the steadiness of life's flow rather than being capsized by its inevitable storms.
