“Humanity is the quality which stops one being arrogant or bitter towards one's fellows.”

—Seneca

Letters From A Stoic

When we choose to nurture our sense of humanity, we can ward off the disdain that can arise from feeling superior or the resentment that festers when we dwell on grievances.

As you navigate today's world, consider how often you let slip disparaging remarks or thoughts simply because someone doesn't meet the lofty standards you've set, or perhaps they've wronged you in some way.

Reflect for a moment: Is there space for more humanity in your daily life? Can you catch yourself before pride tilts your head too high, or before bitterness skews your perspective of someone's actions?

The next time you're on the verge of feeling arrogant or bitter, pause. Take that deep breath. In doing so, you invite empathy to guide your response, allowing your shared human experience to be the lens through which you view others and yourself.

In this empathy, you will find a connection that elevates your relationships, smooths out the rough edges of your interactions, and, most importantly, brings peace to your inner world.
