Things Matter Less

December 24th

“People are frugal in guarding their personal property. But as soon as it comes to squandering time, they are most wasteful of the one thing in which it is right to be stingy.”

—Seneca

Letters From A Stoic

Seneca's hitting at a universal truth here, one you've probably felt in the rush of regret after a day squandered on things that don't matter. You lock your doors, check your bank accounts, and keep a close eye on your possessions, right? But when it comes to your time, it's as if there's an infinite supply.

Spoiler alert: there isn't.

So why treat time—your most precious asset—like it’s worth less than the latest gadget you'd guard with your life?

Imagine you're binge-watching a show or scrolling social media endlessly. It's easy and it's mindless—but is it worthy of the time you're giving it?

Time is non-refundable; once it's gone, it's gone for good. Unlike a bad purchase, you can't return wasted time for a refund.

How are you protecting your time? Are you investing it in activities that enrich your life, build your future, and make you the person you want to be? Or are you giving it away to the lowest bidder?

Guard your time like the treasure it is, and spend it only where it counts.
