Confidence First

December 19th

“Our lack of confidence is not the result of difficulty. The difficulty comes from our lack of confidence.”

—Seneca

Letters From A Stoic

You might think a task that you taken on appears hard, and that's why you're feeling unsure about your ability to tackle it. However, Seneca suggests the real trouble starts within us—with the self-doubt we allow to creep into our thoughts before we even begin.

It's like facing a high wall; if you tell yourself it's too tall to climb, you've already made it steeper in your mind.

So, take a moment to reflect on a recent challenge you faced. Could the way you approached it emotionally have made it seem more daunting than it truly was? What if, instead of viewing difficulties as barriers, you saw them as opportunities to build confidence?

Every email you're hesitant to send, every new project that feels overwhelming, and even personal goals, like starting a new exercise regimen or a hobby, are chances to flip the script.

Knock on the door of a challenging task with the belief that you can handle it, and you might just find it swings open more easily.

Remember, the next time you're confronted with a difficult situation, ask yourself: what could I achieve if my confidence took the lead instead of my doubts?
