Use What Time You Have
“Certain moments are torn from us, some are gently removed, and others glide beyond our reach. The most disgraceful kind of loss, however, is that due to carelessness.”
—Seneca
Letters From A Stoic
Think about your daily interactions, the time you spend on your hobbies, or with loved ones. Seneca's quote reminds us that not every moment can be a grand spectacle. Some moments are taken from us unexpectedly, some fade away gently, and others quietly pass us by. Yet, the ones we lose because of our negligence sting the most.
How often have you been glued to your phone, mindlessly scrolling, also neglecting the world happening right around you? How frequently do you turn off your alarm, promising five more minutes, only to wake up in a rush, skipping your morning routines? This trivial carelessness takes away the preciousness of our lives.
Seneca implores us to cherish our time, because while we cannot control all loss, we can avoid losing moments due to neglect.
Be present, attentive, and live intentionally.
