Live With Tolerance

October 31st

“Live out your life in truth and justice, tolerant of those who are neither true nor just.”

—Marcus Aurelius

Meditations

This wisdom nugget from Marcus asks you to stick to your principles of truth and justice. It means that irrespective of the lack of sincerity or fairness around you, let your actions be governed by virtue.

If colleagues at work engage in gossip and dishonesty, let it not sway you. Remain steadfast in truth, even when falsehood seems to be the easier path.

Not only that, but be tolerant of those who do not share your values. Not everyone will be truthful or just, and that's okay. Their path is not your responsibility.

Your neighbor may not return your lawnmower, your boss could be unfair, but you should not let their behavior alter your conduct.

Can you continue to be honest and fair despite their actions? Can you maintain your calm while others lose theirs?

The challenge here is practicing tolerance while staying true to your virtues.
