What You Do Is What Matters
“Philosophy teaches us to act, not to speak.”
—Seneca
Letters From A Stoic
Where does the real essence of living philosophy lie? Seneca tells us: it's in our actions, not in our words.
Talk is cheap, and it's all too easy to say, "I study philosophy, I'm a Stoic" without actually putting the principles to practice.
Think about it. How often have you seen others craft an image of their beliefs and principles, only to act against those when the tough gets going?
What could it look like to "act, not to speak" in your everyday life?
It might mean spending less time debating on social media and more time showing kindness to a difficult coworker. It might mean stopping the endless scroll on self-help articles, and choosing instead to meditate on a single idea for the day—and then seek to embody it.
Remember, the most eloquent philosophy is not spoken, but lived.
How will you live your philosophy today?
